This sounds about right...

If you're overwhelmed by the whole, break it down into pieces --Chuck Close

Sometimes we get so many things going on that it does overwhelm us.. but what I'd associate this with is losing weight. When we first think about losing, we look at the big picture. What? We have fifty, seventy-five, a hundred pounds to lose? Now that's overwhelming. But what if we broke it down to five pound pieces...? Five pounds? Yes I can do that. And after I do that I can do it again. And again. And when we've done it enough times the whole overwhelming number has been reached in an underwhelming way. J

Leonardo da Vinci, Notebooks, 1508

"Irons rusts from disuse, stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind. "

He's speaking here, of course about using our minds.. We know, or should, that mind exercises are absolutely important for several reasons. Keeping our minds active help to keep us young. There are many ways to keep ones mind active, reading, learning, word games, anything that challenges thought.

But I'd like to go one step farther and say this quote may also apply to our whole selves. Keeping our bodies active will help to keep us in better health. If we are inactive to the point of sitting most of the time our bodies become stagnant from disuse. It's true. And it's simple to prevent. We must move around. Do something. Anything, but move move move.

I don't want to be the little old lady who just sits in her rocking chair doing nothing. I just don't. J

I am only one....

I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. - Edward Everett Hale

Why do some people feel the need to compare themselves with anyone else. I am me and you are you. I may not be able to do everything, but still I can do something.

I think the only thing we can ask of ourselves is no less than what we are capable of. And never ever refuse to do something, just because you can't do everything. J

We are new everyday...

by Irene Claremont de Castillego

We are new every day.

We don't have to wait for Mondays, Springtime, the New Year or any other time... We are new every day.

Now I suggest we take this day and run with it. Plan your day loosely, but do make a plan. Don't let the day get away without accomplishing something. One of my favorite sayings is..

At the end of the day
we should be
one step closer
to what we should be.

We are new every day

Hmmm food for thought?

Michael Bernard Beckwith

Learn to become still, and to take your attention away from what you don't want, and all the emotional charge around it, and place the attention on what you wish to experience. Energy flows where attention goes.

This is a little qoute from the book, "The Secret".. This causes me to question if I have an obssession with food. Do I think constantly about points, calories, menus, food, weight, etc? I might not be thinking 'constantly' about these things but they are there in my mind at all times. Some might call that being aware, or consciousness... but according to this book, one can think so much about a subject it becomes true. If I'm constantly thinking about weight, I may be calling more weight into my life. Now the real secret is, how do we change these thoughts? I guess instead of saying I don't want to be fat, I need to say, I want to be thin. Change the negatives to positives. You get what you ask for, the book tells me. So ask for thinness, dont ask to not be so fat. OK Starting today I will focus on this.

I will not focus on what I can't eat, but will focus on what I am going to eat.
I will not focus on my size at the present but will focus on the size I will be when I reach goal.
I will not focus on how far I have to go, but will visualize myself as already there.

Howz that?

Lean on me.....

Lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long, 'til I'm going to need somebody to lean on."- "Lean On Me"

Some days I need to lean on you and draw from your strengths... I hope when you have a day where you need to lean on someone, you'll think of me and know I'm here for you. Even though we are each responsible for ourselves and what we do, it helps to know there are people rooting for us, cheering us on and understanding when we are down. And the best thing of all is the knowledge that a blue day is only temporary.. J

Your Best....

"Always do your Best'

"Your best is changing all the time"

"Your best will depend on whether you are refreshed in the morning or tired at night. Your best will be different when you are happy as opposed to upset or healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance simply do your best and you will avoid self judgment, self abuse and regret."

We sometimes get down on ourselves when we feel we haven't done our best, isn't that true? But thinking of it like this will make it easier to understand that our best isn't always the same. The days circumstances have much to do with it. The secret is to learn if we are really doing our best or using the excuses of circumstances to become lax.
